COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH TEST OF CONCRETE CUBES

Apparatus Required

  • Compression testing machine
  • Concrete cube mould & Cement mortar cube mould

The procedure of the test

  • Check the oil level of the compresive testing machine, set the load cell to zero.
  • Place the concrete cube specimens (150mm×150mm×150mm) in between the platens at the center position. The test specimen should be placed in such a way that the load shall be applied to opposite sides of the cubes as cast, which is not at the top and bottom.
  • The load shall be applied without shock and increased continuously at a rate of 140Kg/sq.cm/min until the resistance of the specimen to the increasing load breaks down and no greater load can be sustained.
  • Release the pressure and repeat the same for the next sample.
  • The measured compressive strength of the specimen shall be calculated by dividing the maximum load applied to the specimen during the test by the cross-sectional area of concrete cube and shall be expressed to the nearest N/Sq mm.
